Impossible Fibers

Our projects

R&D projects on protein fibers, run with funders and partners.

  1. 1Predicting fiber propertiesDARPA · active researchThe challenge. For DARPA we predicted collagen fiber strength from its molecules, but the model didn't generalize to other proteins.
Our approach. A high-throughput dope machine to generate assembly data across many proteins. Only ~150 biopolymer spinning dopes have ever been characterized; the machine is designed for ~500,000 experiments a year.
